Soulkid Katie’s arrival
Friday, October 14th, 2005I meant to post much sooner but one thing or another kept getting in the way. ^^; The deboxing pics aren’t very good and the colours are kinda off. I just wanted to hurry and tear it open. XD
She arrived on September 27 in a box big enough to fit a 60cm doll. O.o I was surprised to find that Purolator still handled EMS packages (thought it was CanPost?). It’s been more than 2 weeks and I have yet to receive a lovely invoice from them in the mail so perhaps no customs charge after all? *fingers crossed*
The Soulkid girl body is one of the more mature sculpts I’ve seen in the 40cm range…most notably the bust region. Overall the body sculpt is graceful and very well made. The doll can stand on her own but trying to get her to do so required some patience. Either the stringing is too tight or the elastic’s just new. Her legs have a tendency to snap either backwards 90 degress or forward. She nearly caught me with a swift kick to the head a few times and as I was bending over to steady her. >:O Good thing her aim is not so good.
She’s wearing Souldoll’s P68 in 16mm. On the website these eyes looked like a pale dusty mauve; in person they’re a light lilac. It’s a nice colour but I’m not really fond of the pixelated pattern in the iris. She’ll have to wear them for now; it’s the only pair I have that suits her, size-wise. The irises on Souldoll’s 16mm eyes runs a little smaller than the other 16mm I have. Am thinking of getting a pair of non-Souldoll 14mm to try…
One thing that bothered me was the prominence of the area under her eyes. It casted unflattering shadows and made her appear tired. At the same time it also added a melancholic charm to her. Still I went ahead and sanded down those areas and she appears a little more mature now. Here’s the head after sanding and a layer of coating:
As of now, she has a crummy partial faceup. I want to start all over..but the rainy seaon just started here so it’s preventing me from doing any further sanding and coating, work that needs to be done outside. *shakes fist at the gloomy sky* At this rate I don’t know if I can get both my BJDs done up in time for next Saturday’s doll meetup, which I plan to attend (and after much waffling…I’m just horribly shy ^^;;). At least I’ve restrung my other doll for the first time and it was a breeze! *shock* I kept putting it off cuz a lot of people complain how hard it is, bruised fingers and whatnot. However, I had a heck of a time identifying which arm pieces goes on the left side and which goes on the right. D’OH. I still don’t know if they’ve been properly reassembled. XD
