Spring is here, sorta
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008Winter is certainly dragging its heels. Just over a week ago we had snow! Aside from the early spring blooms, temperatures remain low. With such a late start to the growing season, I wonder if we’ll still have veggies from our garden this year…
I have a few costumed 1/6 people in the works, though currently on the back burner since I’ve been devoting more time to sewing for myself. I’m trying to knock off the couple of RTW items that do fit me, seeing as I would need to make major alterations on commercial patterns anyway. Sadly I’m only finding out now that those patterns tend to include ridiculous amounts of ease, so even if I make something according to body measurements on the envelope the garment turns out huge (what’s up with that?! O_o). Now I think in some ways it’s easier to make doll clothes. Fitting oneself without a dressform or an extra set of eyes and hands is HARD. I might just cave and clone myself with a duct tape dummy, as the other alternative is a $250 commercial form at the local fabric shop. Now to decide..which one would be less painful?
In the meantime, gotta do spring cleaning… Recently I realized that while I like buying and hoarding things (can’t even throw away bits of scrap paper), self-contradiction arises from time to time: I am bothered by the amount of stuff, but as a crafter I need to have my “tools” too. @.@ A while back, I read a book on decluttering using feng shui. The main idea was that, for every item you own, there is an invisible thread of energy attached from it to you. So the more threads there are, the more weighted down you would feel. While I only have a passing interest in feng shui, in this instance I think there is some truth to it.
