Worms for lunch

Tuesday, November 25th, 2003

My lastest project: fried vermicelli with salad and fish filet wrapped in phyllo pastry. My lunch for today. And yesterday. And the day before that. Maybe even tomorrow. How exciting eh? And did you know that vermicelli means “little worms” in Italian? Mmmm..yummy.

Blah, I’m bored. It’s nice to have today off..and it’s sunny, which is a huge bonus considering we only get 5 hours of daylight now…

Oh, my package from Minako finally arrived! I was afraid it might’ve gotten lost this time, because others have said SAL shipping from Japan isn’t that reliable. But my packages always arrive in a week or less. I didn’t order much this time..just some bodies, shoes and my first “My Favourite Doll” pattern book. Now I sort of wish I hadn’t picked the antique dress one. I love period costumes but there wasn’t any particular outfit in this issue that really stood out…like a “OMG, must make NOW!” kind of reaction. Maybe it’s all that pleating, pinfolds and lace. Too much work? XD Hmm, maybe it’s time to get a gathering foot for the sewing machine.

Anyway, there are about 25 outfits in this issue, although some dresses share the pattern pieces. All the outfits are for girl dolls. I remember seeing a photo of Raph (Ralph?) in an early Victorian-style suit and had thought the pattern would be in this book. Guess not. There are also 2 pages of diagrams that show you how to do hairstyles. I’ll eventually get around to making something…need to use up that boxful of lace somehow, plus it would be a good chance to practice Japanese again. Whooo, crank that rusty brain!
