Fashionably late…?

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Er, would it be too late for “Happy new year”? XD Although last year I had resolved to post on a more regular basis, it seems I’ve fallen victim to laziness and procrastination (mostly). Writing takes me considerable time because, call me crazy, I like to edit and edit and edit. XD

To start off the year, I’m paring down on my collection and have let go of some floating BJD heads and Ciel. Hopefully they’ll go to homes where they’ll get more attention. As lovely as Ciel was, it was a difficult decision at first but after I boxed her away for some time, I knew the bond wasn’t there. The funny thing was there were two occasions where I dreamed of selling her and she came alive, reacting with much distress. Though my memory of it is fuzzy now, I remember the word “betrayal”. I don’t feel any remorse or emotional attachment, so it was weird to have such alarming dreams. (Sometimes my dreams are so vivid that I have waking moments where I ask myself if it had happened in reality. ^^;;)

Lastly, resolutions…the first post of the year wouldn’t feel complete without them, eh? I don’t know if I can manage to keep any of these so this would be more like a wishlist…

  • Create more doll costumes, specifically period and fantasy themes. My goal would be to learn a new ability or gain knowledge with each project.
  • Sew for myself. No excuse now that there is BurdaStyle.
  • Learn to knit and crochet
  • Buy less and make do with what supplies I have (not only in the interest of economy but this may actually force me to be more creative)
  • Start drawing again. Keep a sketchbook.

I have some recent dolls to post, but it’s verrrry late so will do that tomorrow. Over and out!

Still Alive…

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

I’m still around. Just haven’t been able to do much doll stuff as before. At times it’s health-related..if it’s not one thing, it’s another. And it’s affected my motivation. I’ve become unhappy with myself for being so slow. So once current orders are completed, that’ll be it. I’ll still continue making things because it’s what I love, but it’ll be at my own pace. (I probably sound more bitter than I really am feeling, but just needed to get that off my chest.)

I’ve also been giving a lot of thought about my own dolls and decided that three BJDs is probably one too many for me right now. I never thought selling a doll would be such a difficult decision…but I think it’ll be best for both the doll and me. Who’s going? Likely it’s to be Jerome…it’s funny how I was so certain I wanted him years ago. Sometimes one just have to accept the fact that things don’t always work out like planned…

Anyway, if it’s not too windy today, I need to get some MSC spraying done and then more painting, as long as my hands and eyes cooperate. Well, gotta run out to do some grocery shopping for the extended family BBQ tomorrow. Enjoy the Labour Day long weekend! :)

First doll meet

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

Lately I’ve actually had things I wanted to blog about, but finding the time and inclination is another thing. When I finish moving hosts, hopefully I won’t have to manually make thumbnails again! X_x Anyway, here are the pics from the October 22 Vancouver (BC) BJD meet! It was the first doll meet I’ve ever attended. ^_^ Please excuse the grainy-ness of pics…I took these with my Canon A85 and I didn’t even think to use flash (not in the habit of using it ^^;;).

IIRC, there were around 25 dolls in attendance! Plus there were a couple more dolls that aren’t pictured here. For this meet I only brought my Jerome. I had transported him in my backpack, padding it with the pillows that came with Katie. However, at the meet I was horrified to find that the ink from a shopping bag I had placed inside my pack had rubbed off onto his face! He had this prominent, ugly blue streak on his face. It was awful luck and upsetting to introduce my doll this way. But then, elfinder (our host) came to the rescue with a Mr. Clean eraser and managed to get most of the ink off! Hooray!! His faceup did come off in some places but I don’t mind as much..I’m going to redo it eventually…

Here are some individual pics:

Angelregion Pure Milk Ami. Eeeeee, so sweet! ^o^ AR did a gorgeous job on her makeup.

Rainydoll Soah. She has a quiet, but magnetic type of beauty…one can’t help but be drawn to her. *_*

Volks former F-08. This headmold is even cuter in person! I loved her outfit, from the wig to the impeccable sailor dress.

Dollshe Hound. Heh, I had to look up the maker of this doll. ^^; He has a definite strong presence and attitude. And he has beautifully sculpted, expressive hands.

Overall, it was great to finally see all these dolls in person and the chance to chat with other people about dolls. I came to realize that I’m not quite ready for a larger BJD yet…I picked up a Nono13 and was surprised at how heavy she was! I think I’m more comfortable working and playing with MSD size dolls right now. Also, I got to see a variety of faceups so as an artist, that was a good learning opportunity. :)
